Questions? Comments? Concerns?

When the mood strikes.

This week has culminated into a terrible day, it started off bad and just didn’t get better. Throwing money down the toilet, wasting the day, chasing the idea of him that will never happen, not being funny, being unintentionally mean to friends, falling flat, not fitting in, being left, despising myself yet again, and now I can’t sleep because I’m so upset and tired because I haven’t slept in days.

I want to be here so bad, but I don’t feel like I deserve it, so it makes me bitter.

Every great magic trick consists of three parts or acts. The first part is called “The Pledge”. The magician shows you something ordinary: a deck of cards, a bird or a man. He shows you this object. Perhaps he asks you to inspect it to see if it is indeed real, unaltered, normal. But of course… it probably isn’t.
The second act is called “The Turn”. The magician takes the ordinary something and makes it do something extraordinary. Now you’re looking for the secret… but you won’t find it, because of course you’re not really looking. You don’t really want to know. You want to be fooled. But you wouldn’t clap yet. Because making something disappear isn’t enough; you have to bring it back. That’s why every magic trick has a third act, the hardest part, the part we call “The Prestige”.

as-howarth said: Hey John, what is your reaction to the news that the Riverside district has chosen to ban TFIOS from middle school libraries on the grounds that it deals with mortality and sex? I remember your reactions to similar situations concerning your books have been pretty animated and wondered what you thought?

fishingboatproceeds:

I guess I am both happy and sad.

I am happy because apparently young people in Riverside, California will never witness or experience mortality since they won’t be reading my book, which is great for them.

But I am also sad because I was really hoping I would be able to introduce the idea that human beings die to the children of Riverside, California and thereby crush their dreams of immortality.

I teach these kids! WHAT?!?!
